In 2003, MDA started its Translational Research Program, which is designed to move new drug targets into the clinic as rapidly and efficiently as possible.
The Translational Research Program was developed as a response to the increasing number of promising therapeutic avenues from MDA's basic research program. Additionally, MDA recognized that for-profit companies are more interested in developing drugs for large disease markets, and there is a need to jump-start drug development for rare diseases.
MVP is taking the translational research portfolio to the next level. Projects from inside the MDA pipeline, and projects from outside with the greatest probability of therapeutic relevance, will be supported by MVP.
